In 2009 the Brazilian C&MA decided to send their first missionary couple to Portugal. They invited three U.S. international workers already living in Brazil to partner in the opening of the Portugal field.
In that same year a vision team made up of 4 of the 5 candidates, the Brazilian Alliance president, the IM Regional directors from South America and Europe and the Field Director from Spain arrived in Portugal to specifically interview evangelical pastors/workers in the northern part of the country to better understand where to send the first team of international workers.
Through the leading of the Lord, we met a Portuguese pastor who drew up the formal letters of invitation needed for the team's entry visas into the country. In October 2010, through the help of a Portuguese Christian lawyer the C&MA was officially organized in the country and will be known as PORTACEM (The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Portugal).
By September 2011 all 5 members of the team were in country and began a Cultural Orientation class at a Portuguese university. Before the end of 2012 the team plans to have established themselves in the area where they will concentrate on church planting.

The Alliance at Work in Portugal
As far as we know, Marina is the only evangelical Christian in her middle school.
“. . . let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
In Portugal our calling may be to sow seeds of the gospel, but we hope to also have a harvest. Either way, we are dependent on God’s part between the two actions.
An atheist asks Alliance international workers about Jesus and His life.
Will Portugal have a second chance to share the message of the cross—taking the whole gospel to the whole world?
