SPAIN

Behind the facade of Spains imposing cathedrals and vibrant culture lurks a dark spiritual voidless than 1 percent of its population is evangelical. In response to the need, our first C&MA workers entered Spain in 1978, beginning in Barcelona. For many years, the work was difficult and response minimal. As late as 1999, our ministry in Spain consisted of just three small churches.

In 2000, the tide turned remarkably, and quite suddenly, with the arrival of thousands of Latin American immigrants. God began opening new doors to share the gospel and plant churches among these new residents. Despite crippling financial hardships and unemployment in the country today, our Spanish and immigrant congregations in Spain have experienced growth.

Some unorthodox methods for planting churches in Spain seem to be working well. For example, a family-oriented counseling center in Granada seeking to meet emotional needs has resulted in many counselees realizing their spiritual needs. Another ministry north of Madrid hosts a summer English Camp that is now in great demand locally. The team has launched a variety of family-oriented ministries that have opened doors for friendship evangelism and cell groups.

Today, the Evangelical Christian and Missionary Alliance of Spain consists of 7 organized churches, 7 unorganized groups, and 1,530 inclusive members.

Team Initiatives

Plant a church in the bedroom community of Tres Cantos, just north of Madrid, through friendship evangelism, summer English Camps, cell groups, and a variety of family-oriented ministries. Pray for Tim and Marilyn Westergren as they lead this church planting effort.

Develop and mentor leaders through both formal and non-formal ministries. Pray especially for the new Bible Institute (INFORMA) and for Tim Westergren and Steve Irvin as they teach classes and train pastors and workers. Classes are offered in both Madrid and Barcelona, as well as online.

Work with the Spain National Church in supporting our Bible Institute, and in coordinating church planting ministries, particularly in the Canary Islands. Pray for Raymond Ebbett and Tim Westergren as they link up with national leaders to coordinate joint projects for starting new churches.

Work with the Alliance World Fellowship leaders in Latin America and Europe to promote Latino missionary efforts in Spain and Western Europe. Pray for Raymond Ebbett as he helps coordinate these exciting opportunities to do missions together.

Rescue women caught in the scourge of human slavery via sex-trafficking. Pray for Betsy as she leads the C-House Project dedicated to bringing the light and transforming power of the Gospel to this dark area of Spanish society.

Establish a new Envision Site in the city of Málaga, southern Spain. Pray for Brian and Erin Clemmer as they head up this strategic ministry initiative.
